Banjo-Threeie is a hypothetical and nonexistent game in the Banjo-Kazooie series. At the end of Banjo-Tooie, a throwaway gag is used when Gruntilda states "Just you wait until Banjo-Threeie...". This gag plays fun with the naming convention used by Banjo-Tooie, resulting in the almost unpronounceable title of "Banjo-Threeie". There was never a Banjo-Kazooie game planned for the GameCube, and the Banjo-Tooie team went straight into work on Grabbed by the Ghoulies after Tooie's release. At the end of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, the developers continue with a similar gag with Gruntilda stating "...just wait for the devious game I make", with Rare having no plans at the time for another Banjo-Kazooie game.

Banjo Threeie Beta Spaceworld 2000 Trailer

While commonly thought to be footage from a hypothetical "Banjo-Threeie" game, the video shown by Rare at SpaceWorld 2000 was only meant to hype Rare's presence on the GameCube and reuses assets from Banjo-Tooie. In the video, several enemies of Banjo-Tooie (including bosses like Klungo) are chasing Banjo, Kazooie, and Mumbo Jumbo.

Trivia[]

  • Lead designer Gregg Mayles confirmed on his Twitter that Banjo-Threeie was nothing more than a joke and not an actual sequel hook that many assumed it was, and that he had no desire to make another game in the same vein as the first two games.[1]
  • The models in the SpaceWorld demo sequence were taken from Banjo-Tooie.
  • For unknown reasons, Alphette and Gobi the Camel, two generally peaceful characters, can also be seen chasing Banjo, Kazooie, and Mumbo Jumbo in the SpaceWorld sequence.
