Banjo-Kazooie Wiki

Banjo's House is located in Spiral Mountain, and in a greater scale, the Isle O' Hags. As its name implies, it is where Banjo and Kazooie live. It has appeared in every game in the Banjo-Kazooie series to date, except for Banjo-Pilot. In Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo and Kazooie are inside sleeping, when Tooty comes to visit and ends up getting kidnapped by Gruntilda. Additionally, Banjo can enter his house for the secret Bottles' Moving Picture Game by simply looking at the portrait of Bottles.

In Banjo-Tooie, Banjo, Kazooie, Mumbo Jumbo, and Bottles are playing cards inside on a dark and stormy night. When Grunty is freed by her sisters from underneath the rock, she fires a spell at Banjo's house, destroying it and killing Bottles (who stayed inside when the others escaped due to thinking that Mumbo Jumbo and the others were trying to cheat at poker.) in the process. It is accessible during gameplay like its predecessor, but no features or tasks are found as a result of the destruction.

Banjo's house appears only briefly in the opening scene and ending of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge. However, it is not accessible for entry unlike the previous two games. In this game, the house is light purple and the roof is light gray.

In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Banjo and Kazooie are sitting outside of it, eating pizza, listening to the radio, with Kazooie playing a game with an Xbox 360 controller and headset. They never bothered to finish repairing it after the events of Banjo-Tooie. At the end of Nuts & Bolts, the house is repaired and painted pink by Jolly Dodger. Banjo's house has also been used as the main menu in each of the console games.

Inside Banjo's house is a bed, a fishbowl containing Roysten, his pet goldfish, a fireplace (with a picture of Bottles above the mantle), a stove, a blue couch, Banjo's bed with a hat hanger where he puts his backpack (and Kazooie), and a picture of Tooty. In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, a stack of Xbox 360s are seen and a box containing Kazooie's moves from the previous games can also be seen if the player defeats Gruntilda at the end of the game.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike in Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, Banjo's house has no chimney in Banjo-Tooie probably due to it being destroyed by Gruntilda's spell.
  • Banjo's house goes through some subtle redecoration between Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie: the yellow painted ceiling is replaced with dark wooden panelling, the white painted skirting board is replaced with darker wood, the wallpaper changes from a yellow flower pattern to a yellow diamond pattern with a horizontal pink-and-blue stripe, the bookshelves to the right of the fireplace are removed to make room for a second blue couch and a floor lamp, and the bedside drawers are removed. These changes are difficult to spot in-game, since the house only appears intact during the dimly-lit opening cutscene.
  • Banjo's house had a much darker colour scheme at one point in Banjo-Kazooie's development, as seen below. Other pre-release screenshots show that Banjo once had a framed picture of Donkey Kong in place of the final game's portrait of Tooty. This photo may have even been positioned over the fireplace at one stage and later replaced with a photo of Bottles, considering how Kazooie inexplicably calls Bottles "Barrel Boy" during the dialogue for Bottles' Moving Picture Game.

  • Banjo's house being colored blue is possibly a reference to the children's TV program Bear in the Big Blue House, owing to Banjo being a bear.
  • At the end of Nuts & Bolts Jolly Roger paints Banjo's house pink, with a yellow roof and white trim around the windows.
  • In N&B there is also a glitch where Banjo can clip inside his house, and the interior differs from the version of the house seen on the file select menu.
