A Gruntling is an enemy found throughout Gruntilda's Lair and other locations around Spiral Mountain. Gruntlings serve as Gruntilda's basic minions and look very similar to Klungo, her (formerly) most loyal lackey. Gruntlings are cloaked creatures with skulls on the cloaks, and each color of cloak represents how strong they are. Red-cloaked Gruntlings are the weakest, blue-cloaked Gruntlings are medium-strength, and black-cloaked Gruntlings are the hardest to kill.
In Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, the Jinjo Oracle comments that Gruntlings were combined with Whiplashes to create Gruntweeds.
In Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, the Gruntling is replaced by the Gruntbot.
Etymology[]
Gruntling is a combonation of Grunty and ling (a forming nouns from nouns, adjectives, and verbs).
