Multiplayer mode menu
The Multiplayer Mode is a game mode in Banjo-Tooie that can be accessed from the game's title screen. This mode allows two to four players connected to the same Nintendo 64 or Xbox console to play several mini-games from the main game together, competing for points. There are fourteen individual mini-games that can be played, each with their own set of rules and features. Players can choose to play a single mini-game, some of the games or all at once, with the player earning the most points throughout the games winning in the end. Choosing to play the games individually allows for more customization of rules.
Games[]
Shootout Games[]

3 players playing Targitzan's Temple Shootout
Several of the games in multiplayer mode repurpose the Breegull Blaster mini-games from the main game into multiplayer 'shootout battles'. These mini-games all work the same way, with the map changing depending on which game is selected. These games also contain their own customizable rules and multiple playable characters if selected to play individually. This game sees the players forced to find and shoot each other while collecting eggs to use as ammunition. All eggs in the base game are available to be collected, and are spread across the map. Each player starts with a specific amount of energy, being defeated if their health is depleted to zero by another player. Points can be earned by defeating other players, and lost by being defeated.
Maps[]
Characters[]
- Banjo - Banjo is the most well-rounded character with average movement speed and 8 energy.
- Mumbo - Mumbo is functionally no different than Banjo, also having average movement speed and 8 energy.
- Jinjo - Jinjo has an extremely fast movement speed and small hitbox due to its small size, but only 4 energy. (Jinjo can only be unlocked as a playable character by hatching the yellow egg in Heggy's Egg Shed in the main game, or as a Stop N' Swop reward in the Xbox version.)
- Jamjars - Jamjars is slightly slower than Banjo/Mumbo but still has 8 energy. However, he is somewhat smaller than Banjo.
- Grunty - Grunty is significantly slower than the other characters, but has 16 energy. She has the largest hitbox among the available characters.

Mayan Kickball Challenge[]

This mini-game functions exactly as it did in the main game. Players must earn the most amount of points by kicking yellow balls into their own net, while kicking red balls into their opponents' net to lower their score, or using bombs to slow other players. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Dodgems Challenge[]

This mini-game is simple: Players must collect twinklies to earn points while driving a dodgem car. Blue twinklies are worth 3 points, with green being worth 2 and red being worth 1. The player with the most points at the end wins. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Hoop Hurry Challenge[]

This mini-game functions the same as it did in the main game, with players playing as Kazooie jumping through hoops on foot to earn the most amount of points. Blue hoops are worth 3 points, with green being worth 2 and red being worth 1. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Balloon Burst Challenge[]

This mini-game functions the same as it did in the main game, with players using the airborne egg aiming move to shoot balloons and earn the most amount of points. Blue balloons are worth 3 points, with green being worth 2 and red being worth 1. Shooting other players achieves no effect. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Mini-Sub Shootout[]

This mini-game functions similarly to Grunty's Submarine Challenge, with players in the deep sea cavern, however, they must shoot each other to earn points, similar to the shootout mini-games. If selected to play individually, players may change the game length, with the options being first to 10, first to 20, 2 minutes and 5 minutes.
Chompa's Belly Challenge[]

This mini-game functions the same as it did in the main game, with players using the Breegull Blaster to shoot germs and earn the most amount of points. Blue germs are worth 3 points, with green being worth 2 and red being worth 1. Shooting other players achieves no effect. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Packing Room Challenge[]

This mini-game functions the same as it did in the main game, with players collecting twinklies and depositing them into the correct area corresponding to their colour. The more twinklies a player is carrying, the slower they become. Blue twinklies are worth 3 points, with green being worth 2 and red being worth 1. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Colosseum Kickball Challenge[]

This mini-game functions exactly as it did in the main game. Players must kick yellow balls into opponents' nets to increase their score, with the player with the lowest score winning the game. Red balls can be kicked into the player's own net to decrease their score, while bombs can be kicked at other players to slow them down. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Trash Can Challenge[]

This mini-game functions the same as it did in the main game, with players playing as Kazooie on foot to defeat germs and earn the most amount of points. Blue germs are worth 3 points, with green being worth 2 and red being worth 1. Shooting other players achieves no effect. No additional rules for this game can be accessed.
Zubba's Nest Shootout[]

This mini-game functions similarly to the Zubba's Nest challenge, with players playing as Bee Banjo, however, they must shoot each other to earn points, similar to the shootout mini-games. If selected to play individually, players may change the game length, with the options being first to 10, first to 20, 2 minutes and 5 minutes.
Tower of Tragedy Quiz[]

This mini-game functions the same as it did in the main game, with players competing on Grunty's Tower of Tragedy game show and answering trivia questions about the main game to earn points. Correct answers earn 2 points, while wrong answers lose 2. Second guesses earn and lose 1 point if right/wrong. If there are less than 4 players in the game, the remaining characters will be controlled by the game itself, however, they rarely earn points. The characters in the game will always be (from left to right) Mumbo, Jamjars, Banjo and Humba Wumba. If selected to play individually, players may change the game length, with the options being first to 15, first to 30, 5 minutes and 10 minutes.
Trivia[]
- Mumbo and Jingos carry similar types of birds during the Shootout games.
