Nintendo is a large game development company that Rare formerly worked for, before they were sold to Microsoft. Rare produced many games for Nintendo's systems, such as the NES, and also created the Donkey Kong Country series on the SNES. Rare most likely made their mark with Nintendo while producing games for the Nintendo 64. Although they were sold to Microsoft, Rare is still allowed to produce games for Nintendo hand-held consoles, publishing most of their hand-held games through THQ. Some hand-held games Rare has produced for Nintendo are Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge, Banjo-Pilot, and Diddy Kong Racing DS. Nintendo has kept Rareware icons such as Donkey Kong, from the Donkey Kong Country series, and Star Fox, from Star Fox Adventures. Nintendo's mascot is Mario from their long-running video game series Super Mario, which has become one of Nintendo's many collective mascots.
